Wash/Pack Specialist
Seasonal position May - November
We’re looking for someone to run our wash/pack facility this season!
We offer the highest quality and freshest produce in the area, delivering twice a week to restaurants and grocery stores in Columbia. The wash/pack (post-harvest) process is a critical part of our quality control.
This job will involve little to no field work, and will primarily be located in an open-air structure.
Hours will vary with the weather. Early in the season we will start at 8 a.m.
In extremely hot weather, shifts may start as early as 6 a.m.
We have a friendly, respectful work environment and we will train employees on all the necessary aspects of the job.
Prior experience with produce (grocery, restaurant or farm) is strongly preferred.
Pay: $15/hour (with paid breaks)
Days: Monday and Thursday
Hours: 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., depending on weather and harvest volume
Responsibilities:
Clean/sanitize food contact surfaces
Clean/sanitize reusable distribution totes and trays as needed
Fill out log sheets as needed
Wash, sort, dry and package salad greens
Rinse, sort, weigh and pack other vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers
Ensure that products are clean, safe and of the highest quality
Label and organize products for distribution
Desired skills/knowledge:
Understanding of the basics of food safety
Knowledge of basic tools and chemicals for cleaning and sanitizing
Experience handling fresh produce in grocery, restaurant or farm context
Attention to detail
Willingness to learn, follow direction and adapt
Ability to function in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality standards
